Our Mission
The purpose of the Henderson Lacrosse Club is to promote affordable opportunities for the youth within the Henderson community to be physically active and play lacrosse. The goals and objectives of the club are to support and unite local teams, foster teamwork, develop youth sportsmanship, leadership, civic character, integrity and lifelong interest in an active lifestyle. Players, in turn, support new and developing players and participate in community service activities. We are strongly committed to supporting the regional and national growth of the sport by retaining our knowledgeable volunteer coaches, developing regional lacrosse camps and tournaments, and serving as a central location for lacrosse regional information.
The Henderson Lacrosse Club is committed to providing positive lacrosse experiences to elementary, middle and high school boys and girls. We have made a significant difference in our community by developing lacrosse teams in the Henderson area that provide opportunities for kids as young as 5th graders and all the way up to their senior year in high school to play and learn lacrosse. These are club teams and supported in part through donations and fund raising efforts. Furthermore, the club has supported the development of a free clinic for new players as well as returning players to give them the opportunity to play and join the sport. At the middle school level, lacrosse has become a school-recognized sport that kids can participate in for healthy physical activity. Being physically fit is a core value that the Henderson Lacrosse Club promotes – and it is important to us to offer physical activity opportunities to kids by learning the game of lacrosse.
The regional growth of lacrosse has mirrored the national growth of the sport. For example, the number of nationally active players at all levels of play increased about 89% since 2001. Regionally in that same time period, 8 teams for elementary/middle school aged kids, 3 teams for boys and a team for girls at the high school level have been developed. This year, we are expanding the high school teams to include 2 additional teams meaning more kids will be engaged in physical activity. In order to cultivate this growth while also developing new opportunities for kids, the Nike funding will help us 1) develop an equipment bank that new players or players whose families may be struggling financially can use, 2) create a regional team, 3) purchase game equipment for existing teams and 4) create new middle school opportunities. By investing in the youth, Nike will help kids to benefit from learning lacrosse skills while also learning good physical fitness habits that will last a lifetime.
